• School Visits

GNC members promote general awareness and understanding of the brain and nervous system to school children at both primary and secondary level.  These sessions are designed to be a fun way to learn neuroscience and to instil a love of learning and a thirst for knowledge at a young age.

  • START

Established by the Health Research Board – Trials Methodology Research Network (HRB-TMRN), the Schools Teaching Awareness of Randomised Trials (START) competition invites primary school students in 4th, 5th & 6th classes to lead on an exciting project and create their very own fun randomised clinical trial in the classroom.  GNC members have been involved in the START competition since 2022.

Dr Roche has participated in the START “Meet the Scientist” initiative in 2022 and 2023, providing national school students a short overview on how the brain works, what it is like to work as a neuroscientist and an insight into some of her research. This short presentation was then followed by Q&A session with the students.  Over 30 schools participated in this this online event.

GNC members also participated in the final of the competition where they set up an interactive exhibition for students to learn about the brain in an interactive way.
