Biography

Abigail Rekas is an early career academic focusing on copyright law, the arts and accessibility. Presently her research focuses on 3 main streams, archiving and preserving video games, access to justice for people working in the arts, and access to cultural materials. She has additional research interests in disruptive technology including Generative AI and lawyering skills. 

Previously Abigail Rekas an Early Stage Research fellow working on the Marie Curie Disability Rights Expanding Accessible Markets (DREAM) Project from 2011-13. Her topic of research is the implementation of Article 30(3) of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which guarantees that intellectual property regimes shall not create unreasonable barriers to access to cultural materials for persons with disabilities. 

Abigail was granted a Ph.D. in 2023 from the University of Galway for a thesis titled 'Yes, And: Implementation of the Article 30 Guarantee of Access to Cultural Materials for Persons with Disabilities.'  Abigail also holds a Juris Doctor from Northeastern University School of Law (2011). She is a member in good standing of the Bar of the Commonwealth of Massachuestts. Abigail graduated summa cum laude with departmental honors from University of Massachusetts and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the same (2007).
