Association of Hispanists of Great Britain & Ireland Conference | April 2014

"In April 2014, the Spanish section of the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures organised a major conference for specialists in Spanish. This was the annual conference of the Association of Hispanists of Great Britain and Ireland (AHGBI). We were fortunate to have the support of the Conference & Event Centre in running this prestigious event.

At all times during the preparation of the conference, and while it was taking place, Patricia Walsh and her team were extremely supportive, not only helping with a host of practical matters, including budgeting, but also giving us tips and advice that showed that she and her staff have vast experience in this kind of activity. We were able to face the daunting task of running such an event at NUI Galway with confidence.

We found that the delegates were delighted with all aspects of the conference. Most people had travelled from Britain to attend, and were extremely impressed by the efficiency with which everything was run, and with the general friendly and welcoming atmosphere, both in the University and in Galway, helped along by plenty of sunshine. They all had very high praise for all aspects of the organisation.

The President of the AHGBI wrote to the members of the Association afterwards singing our praises. He talked about “the magnificent conference we were fortunate to enjoy in Galway last April” and went on to say: “Those of you who attended will agree with me, I am sure, that it was a great success …  I would like to express here my thanks and those of the AHGBI to Professor Bill Richardson and his staff and PGs for all their hard work in ensuring that it was such a successful conference…. It will be difficult to forget the wonderful evening of Mexican music, tequilas and margaritas, and the excellent conference dinner with representatives from the Embassies of Mexico, Chile and Spain.”

That tribute is due in large part to the Conference & Event Centre team, and I would like to extend my congratulations and thanks to them for a wonderful job which was very well done!"

From the time we booked the venue right through to the conference day itself, we received top class professional support from NUI Galway staff. Arrangements made in advance were fully delivered including audio visual, catering, back-up rooms and refreshments. We are very happy to recommend NUI Galway as a conference venue."

Collaborative Management of Multi-system Diseases | June 2014

"The NUI Galway Conference and Event Centre provided flawless planning, coordination and on-the-day support for our two-day seminar on complex medical disorders. Our speakers included a group of international experts from Mayo Clinic in the USA and from Ireland.

The event was a great success and attracted medical trainees and specialists from centres throughout Ireland. Both speakers and attendees provided overwhelmingly positive feedback about the programme and the manner in which the meeting was organised. Most importantly, the conference setting and evening social event at NUI Galway proved to be ideal for fostering discussions and friendly interactions.

The support for the meeting from the Conference and Event Centre was truly outstanding from start to finish and encompassed all aspects of its organisation. I would have no hesitation in recommending their services to any colleague who is planning to host an academic event in Galway."

The set up and the rooms made for a smooth operation of the conference and the foyer of Aras Moyola was an ideal space for tea/coffee breaks as it was large enough to accommodate delegates in comfort and enabled conversation and interaction.

The support from audiovisual staff was invaluable and we appreciated the advice and support from your office. The staff, the food, the reception provided by Friars was of a very high standard and contributed to the congenial atmosphere of the conference."

Cancer Care West ‘Tribute to Seamus Heaney’ Fundraising Evening | March 2014

"In conjunction with NUI Galway, Cancer Care West hosted a ‘Tribute to Seamus Heaney’ fundraising event at the Bailey Allen Hall. The evening was a celebration of Seamus Heaney’s life, and encompassed poetry readings and traditional music performed by some of Ireland’s best known writers, actors, artists and musicians. It was a very successful evening with over 600 people attending and funds raised for Cancer Care West.

The Bailey Allen Hall proved to be an excellent venue with its large capacity, ease of access and proximity to Galway city centre. The University’s conference centre staff was supportive and friendly and dealt with all aspects of the venue in a professional and courteous manner. European Marine Biology Symposium | August 2013

"Last summer, we enjoyed a fabulous 48th European Marine Biology Symposium in Galway. The choice of location, the scientific topics, social events, and the organisation by the Conference Centre staff, all matched our wishes and satisfied our demands.

The organisation was very professional and well suited within an adequate location that combined neatly a range of meeting rooms for different purposes - a spacious lecture hall, a hall with room for coffee breaks as well as the poster presentations, together allowing for an informal yet well-positioned setting for networking, and next to it a hall serving as a restaurant with perfect catering. From the start till the end of the symposium all elements fitted perfectly.

The possibility of accommodation on campus in close proximity to the meeting hall also made our stay easy and comfortable. Along with the friendly atmosphere of the historic city-centre of Galway, which is near the venue too, it made the perfect combination for an international conference such as the EMBS.

Therefore, we express our deep appreciation to the local organisers in the Martin Ryan Institute of NUI Galway, and the Conference Centre staff for organising such a first-rate symposium in a good atmosphere."

The facilities provided by the University were excellent, from the Bailey Allen Hall itself to the IT support provided both beforehand and on the day as well as the administrative back-up from the conference centre staff and the catering facilities.

Any request to the conference centre staff was dealt with professionally and in a very friendly manner. The proximity of the University campus to Galway City Centre was also very useful and many attendees used the accommodation in Corrib Village which was very reasonably priced."

23rd Irish Environmental Researchers Colloquium (Environ 2013) | January/February 2013

"The 23rd Irish Environmental Researchers Colloquium (Environ2013) was held in NUI Galway from January 30th to February 1st 2013. Almost 300 delegates from all over Ireland were in attendance and we used the Bailey Allen Hall as the venue. The conference facilities in the Bailey Allen Hall are top class, and having the flexibility of designing the layout of the rooms was a bonus.

The venue was very suitable for hosting several parallel sessions, and many of the conference delegates remarked about the high standard of the venue, and that nothing like it existed in their own institutions. Our corporate sponsors were very happy with the layout of the main hall and the amount of space provided to them.

The Conference Office staff were excellent in ensuring that the venue looked its best on the days of the conference and dealt with Buildings Office staff on our behalf. They showed up in person at key times during the conference and were only a phone call away. During the planning stages of the conference they provided lots of very sensible advice and help, and their experience in event management is vast.

We had very specific requirements for catering, requesting food that had all been sourced locally and produced sustainably, with minimum packaging. The Conference Office were very helpful ensuring that these needs were met, and the food was all served on time, was reasonably priced and of a very high standard. It was a pleasure dealing with Masterchef staff who kept us up to date and informed throughout the three days of the conference.

Using the services of the Conference Office was essential for a group of this size. We sat down at the beginning of the process with them, and they helped with all stages of planning. The assistance from the staff in the Office was second to none. They thought of everything, and their friendly and professional manner made the conference organisation a pleasure. It was great to have such professional support.

I would highly recommend their services, and would have no hesitation in using the Conference Office for all my future conference organisation."

Anglican Chorale of Ottawa (ACO) | August 2012

"Our 47-member choir thoroughly enjoyed our 5-day stay at Corrib Village. The administration before and during our stay was excellent - responsive, supportive, and true to their word.  The residence space is top tier.  Comfortable, clean, quiet rooms, and the shared kitchen/living room space was great to have amongst every four apartments.

We also enjoyed the "quad" area in-front of the building - a place for the group to stay in touch.  The extras that we asked for - rehearsal space, a group dinner at the Campus Pub, a group dinner upon arrival - were taken care of perfectly. Who knew Ireland should be known for their cuisine? We also loved the university campus, Galway, and the surrounding area.  Any group should have no reservations about staying at Corrib Village."

MSC Galway Conference | July 2012

"In the summer of 2012 a conference was held in Galway on the topic of stem cell technology. It brought together an international grouping of experts from 5 continents to discuss recent research in stem cell therapy and the development of new treatments for patients.

The venue was the Bailey Allen Conference Centre at NUI Galway and management of the conference was in the hands of the NUI Galway Conference and Catering Office, led by Patricia Walsh and assisted by Olivia McBride and Rory O’Toole.

I have to say that the success of the conference was due in no small part to the excellent environment provided at NUI Galway. The conference facilities were superb. Every aspect of the venue – registration desk, seating, audiovisual services, speaker-ready room - was professional, polished and well managed. It turned out to be a truly excellent location.

Catering, which included coffee breaks and hot lunches, was seamlessly organized and on time and the food was excellent. The conference banquet, held in the Aula Maxima, was very special, with a superb four-course dinner provided by Masterchef and a memorable night of music with Frankie Gavin and Friends.

Conference management was efficient, proactive and professional. It was clear that the office has a great deal of experience in event management and in the organization of large venues.

The jewel in the crown, for this international conference venue, was the city of Galway. Visiting Galway and the west of Ireland was a magical experience for all the overseas delegates. They enjoyed the music, the nightlife, the wonderful ambience of Galway, and of course the events associated with the Volvo Ocean Race Finale.

I have received letters from delegates from all corners of the planet, NUI Galway as a conference venue and Galway City as an incomparable destination."
