Biography

My role as the Clinical Link Facilitator – Gerontology is a joint appointment between School of Nursing & Midwifery, National University of Ireland and Nursing & Midwifery Planning & Development Unit HSE West/Mid-West. This joint appointment involves an educational brief delivering and facilitating the Master in Health Science (Gerontology) programme at the School of Nursing & Midwifery Studies at the National University of Ireland, Galway and practice development  within nursing units across Galway, Mayo, Roscommon, Limerick, Clare and North Tipperary providing services for older people. My role within the school encompasses responsibilities’ to teaching, research and contribution to community. While my teaching duties mainly pertain to the Post-graduate Diploma in Nursing (Gerontology) my brief also focuses on the support of students’ throughout the programme and their completion of the clinical components and service improvement initiatives’ to meet the programme requirements. My teaching roles  within the School of Nursing & Midwifery also includes both the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes including nurse prescribing and Advanced Nurse Practitioner programmes. programme. My research interest mainly pertains to older persons exploring such topics as end-of-life care, connectedness and dementia.  I'm presently undertaking my PhD study in which I hope to explore the experience of loss for people with dementia under 65years and their families.
