Microbial diversity; evolution; biofilm formation; ecophysiology and fitness; and 'eco-engineering' of yet-to-be-cultivated microbes, especially in biotechnologically-relevant and environmentally-important biofilms, including carbon-, nitrogen-, sulfur- and iron-cyclers.
