Biography

Michaela Schrage-Frueh joined NUI Galway as Lecturer in German in 2017. Prior to this she was a Lecturer in English Literature at Mainz University (where she was awarded her MA and PhD) and DAAD-Lecturer at the University of Limerick (2012-2017).

In Galway she is Course and Erasmus Coordinator of BCommerce International (German) and teaches classes on German language, literature, and culture to Commerce and Arts students.

Her main research interests include gender and ageing studies; cultural, literary, and philosophical dream studies, and German-Irish Studies. She is a founding member of WARN (Women and Ageing Research Network; https://womenandageing.network/) and a member of the Network of Cultural Dream Studies (http://www.culturaldreamstudies.eu/). In December 2021 she was an invited guest lecturer at the Research Training Group 'European Dream Cultures', University of Saarbrücken (https://www.traumkulturen.de/beteiligte/gastwissenschaftlerinnen.html). From 2019-2022 she was part of the Irish research team of the ERC-funded project MASCAGE (https://gender-net-plus.eu/mascage/) and from 2021-2022 she was PI of the IRC-funded project "ReStorying Ageing: Older Women and Life Writing". 

Michaela is particularly interested in supervising postgraduate work on any aspect of ageing in literature and culture or on any other aspect related to contemporatry German, Anglophone or comparative literature.
