Biography

I studied linguistics at St. Petersburg State University (Russia) where I later did a PhD in Phonetics and where I taught English phonetics for a number of years. I came to Ireland in 2002 and stayed to do another PhD, also in Phonetics, in Trinity College Dublin. In Ireland, I have been teaching courses in general phonetics to the students of linguistics and speech and language therapy both in Trinity College Dublin and NUI Galway. My research interests include segmental and suprasegmental phonetics, prosodic characteristics of speech, the role of the voice source in speech communication (at both linguistic and paralinguistic levels). I am also interested in clinical applications of prosodic analysis.

Research Interests

Segmental phonetics and phonology

Prosodic characteristics of speech

Linguistic and paralinguistic use of the voice source

Voice source analysis and parameterisation

Voice source dynamics in intonation

Cross-cultural variation in the vocal expression of emotion and affect

Phonetic variation

Clinical applications of phonetics and speech science
