The Galway Neuroscience Centre (GNC) is a centre of excellence for interdisciplinary
neuroscience research, education and outreach activities across the University of
Galway. The aim of the GNC is to develop and disseminate improved understanding
of the brain and nervous system, and improved diagnostics and treatments for brain
and nervous system disorders.

Disorders of the brain and nervous system have a massive health, societal and
economic impact, accounting for 35% of Europe’s total disease burden at a cost of
€400 billion per annum. The University of Galway and the GNC are committed to
alleviating this burden and have made neuroscience a strategic priority research
thematic area within the University.
