Biography:
| Dr. Laurent Pech holds the Jean Monnet Chair of EU Public Law at the School of Law in NUI Galway. Laurent received his Ph.D. in Law and LL.M. in Public Law from the Faculty of Law of Aix-en-Provence (France) and a B.A. in Public Law from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques of Aix-en-Provence. He also studied at the University of Limerick and the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA). Laurent currently teaches EU Constitutional Law, EU Internal Market Law, EU Competition Law, EU Human Rights Law and Policy as well as an introductory course on Law and Regulation. External appointments: Laurent is an External Examiner for the School of Law at Bangor University (Wales), an associate research fellow at the Université Paul Cézanne (Institut Louis Favoreu, Faculty of Law of Aix-en-Provence, France). In 2011, he was appointed as an external examiner for the Law Society of Ireland Final Examinations Part 1 in EU Law, Visiting Professor in Law at the University of Bordeaux, and became an associate member of UCD’s “Dublin European Institute” in January 2012. In September 2008, he was appointed as an Emile Noël Fellow at New York University School of Law for the academic year 2008-09. Prior to working at NUI Galway, Laurent worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Canada Research Chair on Globalization, Citizenship and Democracy. He has also taught law and worked as a legal consultant in countries such as Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Latvia or Montenegro, either on behalf of the Council of Europe or in the context of EU-funded training programmes. Scholarship: Laurent is the author of two books and more than fifty book chapters and articles. His work has been cited by the EU's judiciary and other top European national courts. His most recent papers are generally available on the website of the Social Science Research Network. In June 2011, Dr. Pech was awarded a European prize for outstanding research on the Lisbon Treaty.
