Prof. Tony Dundon BA (Hons), MA, PHD, Fellow CIPD
Tony Dundon is Professor of Human Resource Management and Employment Relations and Head of Management at the School of Business and Economic. Tony’s research areas include ‘employment relations, human resource management and organisational performance, employee voice and trade union organising. Tony has supervised to completion several PhD candidates and enquiries from prospective students interested in pursuing doctoral research are welcome.
Professor Dundon’s research has shaped public policy debates and management practices in Ireland and abroad; for example concerning European employee information and consultation regulations; migrant worker rights; and union bargaining for skills, with recent media coverage in the Irish Times, Sunday Business Post, and The Herald. Tony has served on a recent government-commission (2014) responsible for reviewing Ireland’s apprenticeship system and as Chief Examiner for the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) 2008-2013.
Professor Dundon previously worked at University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) and has held international visiting positions at Sydney University; Deakin University, Melbourne; University of Hertfordshire, UK; Toulouse Business School, France. He is currently Editor-in-Chief of the Human Resource Management Journal (HRMJ), Consulting Editor for the International Journal of Management Reviews (IJMR); International Advisory Board Member of Work, Employment and Society (WES). Tony's books include Employment Relations in Non-Union Firms (Routledge, 2004); Understanding Employment Relations, (McGraw Hill, 2e, 2011); Cases in Global Management: Strategy, Innovation and People Management (Tilde University Press, 2012), and Global Anti-Unionism (Palgrave, 2013). Tony is recipient of the President’s Award for Teaching and Learning Excellence at NUI Galway.

Tony’s research interests are in the areas of employee voice, social partnership, trade union organisation and union renewal strategies, non-union employment relations, and HRM in SMEs. He also has an interest in HRM and organisational performance and labour migration. Enquiries from prospective students interested in applying for doctoral research around such topics is welcome.
